It's not good enough to be just good at something. You've to make yourself findable.

This book is for you if you cringe at the notion of self-promotion.

Showing your work is about putting out pieces of your work "out there" and leveraging the network to help you rather than spending time "networking".

This is about gathering like-minded people who care about the same stuff.

You don't have to be a genius

A genius is portrayed as someone who works in isolation and creates something from the vacuum, like Leonardo Da Vinci, Beethoven, or Picasso.

The author suggests being a “Scenious”, where creativity is fuelled by the connectivity and collaboration of the minds. This is a much healthier way of thinking about creativity and work.

Be an Amateur

Not to worry about the expertise in your field, as your amateur mindset can help other people who are also starting out.

Be mediocre at something, you can move from mediocre to being great in incremental steps, remember the biggest gap is between doing nothing and doing something.

Find what people having similar interests are sharing and figure out what they're not sharing and fill that void.

You can't find your voice if you don't use it

Why did I choose to henceforth share my work and learning with everyone and take that leap of faith?

"...in this day and age, if your work isn’t online, it doesn’t exist. We all have the opportunity to use our voices, to have our say, but so many of us are wasting it. If you want people to know about what you do and the things you care about, you have to share".

Read obituaries every morning, reading about death and life accounts of other people will make you want to do something decent with your life. Simply by being aware that it all is going to end, will make you bold and get inspired from people who have muddled through life before you.

"...whatever the nature of your work, there is an art to what you do, and there are people who would be interested in that art, if only you presented it to them in the right way"

Find out what is the right way?

The right way to share

  1. Scoop up the scraps and the residue of your process and shape them into some interesting bit of media that you can share.
